TIME FLIES WHEN YOU'RE HAVING FUN

That's the best way to describe my internship here at Tangs. It's Friday today, and I spent most of the day walking around the store. Had to visit the various departments to return merchandise we borrowed for all our photoshoots. Today is also the beginning of the Great Singapore Sale here so I had a chance to walk the store and do some shopping while on the job haha. I've already mentally put aside enough money for a leather bag and a cowskin wallet. Thank God for the 20% off for staff. The perks I tell you. I've already taken 3 sets of tickets to musicals, gala openings and movie screenings.

That aside, working here has been great because I've had the chance to think of ideas for our promotions, events and advertising. And also more importantly, learn to execute this ideas and translate them into reality. The brainstorming process is so random and exciting. It's been really fun. The friends I've made here are real fun. The permstaff have been very patient and willing to accept my random ideas. The Trainee Executives have been great company on all my lunch breaks. Our random conversations about young working life and entertainment has made good conversation throughout my stay. Pravin, my fellow intern, has been a nice guy to hang around. And even the staff I don't know here at Tangs have been very friendly and kind to me. Alot of the staff here have been here for ages and they often start a friendly conversation with me because they know I'm new here.

Funny. It's been what 3 weeks? But I'm starting to feel very comfortable here. I enjoy coming to work knowing that the people here will always be friendly and professional at the same time. I wish I had more time to work here with the people who I consider friends. As I think of my internship here at Tangs. I think I know what it is like to really enjoy your job. If one day I should be bored and unhappy with my job, I know that there will always be one place I know of that I will be happy to work at. One place where the magic happens in some office in some department store. I'll be sad to go, but I'll always feel like I've been part of the Tangs family. Till I meet my friends here again!

SO FAR SO GOOD

It’s been exactly 1 week at Tangs now and I find every day is never quite the same as the next. The great thing about Tangs is the nice family environment that is cultivated. Here, strangers smile at each other and greet each other good morning even if we do not recognize their faces or even know which department they come from. It is nice to come to work like this.

Work has been really fun. Everyday we have meetings, and during the meeting we brainstorm ideas for Tangs department store. Just yesterday I proposed a Summer Seranade Sale for the store, with in-house live musicians like harpists and violinists to create the mood. My colleagues like the idea, so now we’re trying to develop it. Tomorrow is our Christmas campaign and I can’t wait.

Working in town is fun for many reasons:
1. you can always meet friends for dinner here
2. I can visit my pals Alvin and Nick anytime
3. everything is in town
4. did I mention everything is in town?

Just yesterday, I got 2 free tickets to the gala opening of Poseidon at Lido from our marketing department. A real nice surprise after a long day at work. I went to catch it with Emilia because we were supposed to meet for dinner, so I decided not to tell her about the tickets and surprise her last minute. She starts work / post-grad soon and we were talking about how fast time has flown. I think back on the conversation I had with Nick. On how things are changing so much. As I type, I’m wearing dress shoes with work clothes. This is just a reminder how quickly we’re growing up.
For now though, I’m just glad to be an intern at Tangs. Doing fun work with some really nice people. 1 week down, 3 more to go.
